The Awards of Excellence dinner recognizes leaders nationwide who exemplify professional and civic excellence and individuals who share Justice Thurgood  Marshall’s concern for civil rights and his passion for justice and education. This year we are proud to announce the following Awards of Excellence recipients who represent a diverse range of disciplines:  Yele Aluko, MD, FACC – Partner, Mid Carolina Cardiology; The Honorable Henry E. Frye – North Carolina Supreme Court Justice (Ret.); Sarah Stevenson – Charlotte-Mecklenberg School Board (Ret.); Donnie Shell – Director of Player Development, Carolina Panthers (Ret.); Joan Zimmerman – Founder & CEO, Southern Shows, Inc.  A special tribute will be made to the North Carolina Central University School of Law, currently celebrating its 70th anniversary.

“The Awards of Excellence events offer a great foundation to recognize community leaders who inspire and serve as role models for the Thurgood Marshall College Fund’s students,” said Dwayne Ashley, President and CEO of Thurgood Marshall College Fund.  “I hope that businesses and communities across the country will join these very deserving honorees in their efforts to continue to unite people of all races and backgrounds to ensure that education and opportunities are available for everyone.”
