WATCH – Record Breaking Sprinter Devin Jenkins Discusses Why He Chose SouthernSouthern University sprinter Devin Jenkins is moving to the top of the list of NCAA track and field record books with a superlative 2013-14 campaign. Last Saturday, the sophomore from Oahu, HI ran the nation’s fastest 100 meter time of 10.21 in the Texas Southern relays, a mark tying the world’s third fastest time in 2014.
SU head track and field coach Brian Johnson, who watched Jenkins also run a 6.68 in the 60-meter dash during the indoor season, feels confident that Jenkins’ strong start to the outdoor season is a sign of an emerging world-class sprinter.
“When Devin ran 6.68, my first reaction was he is going to run 9.90 in the 100m when the season is over,” Johnson said. “I think him setting this record so early means the next meet we go to he is going to break it again. Devin is the focus this year and he is becoming a leader and it is starting to trickle down to everyone on our team.”
