FAMU Alumna Rachael Shackelford Wins Emmy

Florida A&M University alumna and CNN associate producer Rachael Shackelford was recently awarded an Emmy for her work on the 2012 CNN special “Election Night in America.”

The 2005 graduate works with CNN’s “The Situation Room,” and produced the election night special which was awarded in the “Outstanding Live Coverage of a Current News Story (Long Form)” category.

Shackelford, a Tallahassee native, credits her success to the education and nurturing she received at Florida A&M, specifically from former Dean James E. Hawkins and WANM Director Keith Miles.

"Dean Hawkins and Professor Miles pushed me, pulled me, talked to me, mentored me, directed me and fed me. They did it all. They were the secret to the brightest memories I had in undergrad. I bleed orange and green and couldn't be happier that the university that held and nurtured me growing up, later educated me and has now catapulted me to working for an international network and winning an Emmy.
