TMCF/NHL Scholarship


On April 25, 2013, in Washington, D.C., the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) and National Hockey League (NHL) announced the recipients of its inaugural scholarship program who participate in the NHLs Hockey Is For Everyone Program.

The Hockey Is For Everyone program is an AHAI supported vehicle providing young athletes, male and female, from socio and economically diverse backgrounds the opportunity to use the sport of ice hockey to promote academic achievement, responsibility, respect, teamwork and good character.

Mr. Donald Shaw, III of the Fort Dupont Ice Hockey Club in Washington, D.C. and Mr. Richard Lucas of the Ed Snider Hockey Foundation in Philadelphia are the recipients of the 2013 NHL/Thurgood Marshall College Fund academic scholarship to attend any four-year college or university in the U.S. this fall. TMCF Fund Chief Financial Officer Velma R. Hart and NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman made the announcement during a Congressional Hockey Caucus briefing on Capitol Hill that focused on the state of hockey in the U.S., including instructional hockey and safety in youth sports.
